The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently warned consumers that misusing high power laser pointercan damage the retina or cause temporary flash blindness.
Several communities have banned the pointers, including Virginia Beach, Va., Westchester County, N.Y., and Ocean City, Md.
Saunders said he introduced the bill at the urging of an optometrist in his district. "He treated three school bus drivers for retinal damage from thesegreen laser pointer. They are very dangerous."
In one Washington county, bus drivers lodged 30 complaints in six months about lasers being pointed into their eyes or mirrors that bounced the beam into their eyes.
